The Challenge Thread

This goes to everybody who wants to compete regardless of skill. The challenge? Map out your vision of the modDB HQ, for the game of your choice (Check the games list to see what we can actually judge).

PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION

NOTES:

• The overall feeling of the building is up to you.It can be above ground, on ground or below ground. It could even be in the ocean.
• You must be able to walk around in in 1st or 3rd person perspective.
• Any extra crap you want to add, feel free.
• If you use any custom resources (sounds, textures, scripts etc.) then include them in any submission or else it won't work!

• Duke 3D

MAP MUST INCLUDE:

• The Bar (Very casual area)
• Training Centre (Free for all)
• Control Room (Think monitors, control panels)
• Server Centre (Racks of technical looking stuff)
• Records Room (Looming and ominous)

STUFF:

• Anyone wanting to be a judge, post in here. I need to know what games you can judge for (i.e. you have a copy of and know how to open a map in).
• Posting screenies is fine, do as thou wilt.
• Judges can map, but cannot judge their own map. Obviously since I'm the one running this thing I can't compete, but I'll be making one anyway.

Thursday 21st August 2003

On the deadline please PM me a download link or email me the full map. I will then distribute them to the judges.

Results should be out by the 30th August, just in time for the HL2 SDK

I wish I could map for games, because I would have a lot of fun making this. I'd happily help with the judging, though.

How long are we giving people for this? Mapping takes awhile for quality, does it not?

EDIT: What about the secret 1337 hideout and the utility cupboard?

Optional, well ok..I mean considering that only a select few of us have witnessed it, I guess the others wouldn't know the first thing about what it looks like. ...being that it's uber-1337 and all.

I cant map

I can map, but for UT only. There isn't a judge for that though. Maybe I could judge, I'd have to give up my chances of winning as I couldn't judge my own map and there aren't any other UT judges... what do you think .

Have a go, I'm sure we can dredge up another UT judge...

a fore warning though, dont let SCM judge UT maps because he'd be biased in my favour (I dont want to cheat )

Any maps will be randomly distributed to people who can judge them. They will then be awarded points based on quality of map for the game, atmosphere, and how well they suit the original task.

I can judge the UT maps, that's my game!

i should be able to judge... hold on...

doom, half life, ut, ut2k3 (if i learn it), quake1 (if i can find it...), and duke 3d

pretty sure noones gonna map for doom or duke 3d though...

i could judge any and all

im not good enough at mapping to make a moddb map

So has anyone accepted this challenge? And if so, for what game?

my one attempt was with mapping for wolfenstein 3d... a lil while ago

I have not the slightest idea how to begin mapping, but I would love to test out a couple entries.

I can do a Q1 map for yall... it'll have to use VoidEnts though for the custom ambient noises, and extra models that are animated (i.e. a TV, a Scruffy stripper, a gargoyle stripper, etc..)

You mean you can't pull the map up through 4D Shooter?
